Our learn to skate program is for adults 18 and up of any gender, any body type, fitness level, skill, or experience. Through this 13 week program, we will teach you the confidence to skate, stop, fall, jump, transition, skate backwards, block and jam!

WHAT DO I NEED?

Purchasing your own equipment is encouraged! We do have some gear available for lending, but it is limited to first come first served.

To play roller derby, you will need a helmet, mouthguard, wristguards, elbow pads, knee pads and quad skates with toe stops. We typically recommend investing in a set of derby specific skates, like Riedell’s R3 for your starter skate.

You can purchase your gear at Nitro Skates, Rollergirl, Low Life, and other skate shops, and often shops like these will offer a ‘Fresh Meat’ package or bundle, that will have all your beginner gear for a discounted rate.

Our Intake program pricing starts at $125 and goes up to $250. This includes 60+ hours of training, 3 months of dues and a ToRD Fresh Skater Kit. You also will need to purchase insurance from WFTDI (and can do so here).

Sliding Scale & Skater Sponsorships ARE available. If you are interested in receiving information on financial support, leave a note in the registration form and we will do our best to work with you. Finances should never be a barrier to being a part of our community.

After graduating Fresh, if you decide to become a member of ToRD, your monthly dues are $40, and your annual membership fee to hold voting rights within the league is an additional $40. Your insurance with WFTDI also must be maintained yearly (Approximately $50 annually). Other costs that you make incur includes equipment, team jerseys, team photos, travel costs, training camps & coaching, etc.
