Toronto Roller Derby’s rookie team, The Toxins, made an impressive mark this past weekend, skating their way to third place at the annual Fresh and Furious tournament, hosted by Hogtown Roller Derby. In a packed weekend showdown of emerging talent, the Toxins played five hard-fought games, showing grit, growth, and a ton of team spirit.
The tournament kicked off with a nail-biter against Durham Region Roller Derby (DRRD), where the Toxins fell just short with a final score of 40–46. Undeterred, they bounced back in style with a decisive 84–28 victory over the SLAM-mateurs, making a clear statement that they came to compete.
Momentum stayed high in their third match against Eagle Beavers, with the Toxins edging out a thrilling 64–62 win that had fans on the edge of their seats. They faced a tough challenge in their fourth game against Roller Derby Quebec, ultimately falling 32–77, but staying determined as ever.
The final match saw the Toxins rise once more, beating Les Outsiders du Quebec 62–48 and securing their spot for 3rd.
