Practices

Our league practices are designed to bring our entire skater community together and are led by the dedicated members of the Testing & Training committee. These practices prioritize the fun and safety of all participants and aim to facilitate a smooth transition back to skating, mentorship and skill development and community building. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skater, our practices cater to all skill levels. At practice, we believe in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and improve their roller derby skills. Join us as we come together, support one another, and enjoy the excitement of skating as a united league.

Members of the public who have not passed minimum skills or have not been evaluated for safe contact are invited to participate in practices, however they will be restricted to the non-contact portion of practice. They will still be required to meet ToRD skater expectations RE: insurance (or sign a waiver), vaccines, and gear/safety requirements.

💸Fees

There are two ways to pay for training:

  1. All members pay an annual membership fee of $40 to maintain their voting rights within the league. This fee is separate from monthly dues and is renewed yearly. The membership year runs from February 1 to January 31.
  2. Drop in and visiting skaters, including those participating through the All Stars Satellite Skater Program, pay $10 per session attended rather than the standard monthly rate. Skaters attending more than four practices in a month may opt to pay a flat $65 for that month instead.
  3. If you decide you’d like to become a full member of the league, you pay the $40 annual membership fee and your monthly dues drop to the standard $40/month rate from that point forward. Full membership also comes with voting rights and all standard member obligations & benefits.
  4. Officials and coaching staff: Officials (skating, non skating & junior officials) and coaching staff who are not already skating members of the league are not required to pay dues, but may choose to pay the annual membership fee in order to obtain voting rights if they would like.

We do not wish for fees to be an obstacle for our members, and have both dues relief and sliding scale options available. Our dues relief program exists because ToRD is a community first, and we never want money to be the reason someone has to step away from the league, or be unable to participate in the community.
