2014 Battle for the Boot Semi-Final!

It’s the 2014 Toronto Roller Derby Battle for the Boot Semi-Final! After a hard-fought regular season, we’ve finally arrived at the playoffs! The two teams with the most all-time titles (3 apiece), the Chicks Ahoy! and the Gore-Gore Rollergirls, take the track at 7pm for the right to move on to the final, and try to add to their totals. When they met earlier this season the Gores came out on top 218-157, but that was way back in January. Both teams have trained hard all summer long and it’s all for grabs! The Gores have never missed the Battle for the Boot Playoffs, and the Chicks return after a 1-year absence. First whistle goes at 7pm.

First up at 5, the DVAS are hosting the South Simcoe Rebel Rollers from Barrie, ON. Get there early to get a comfortable spot in the bleachers, or bring a chair for trackside viewing in the suicide seats! Doors open at 4pm.

Admission at the door at The Bunker will be $18.00, but $12.00 Advance Tickets are now available online on Brown Paper Tickets, and old-fashioned paper tickets (also $12.00) are available at the following outlets:

Travel Team Updates

Travel team season is in full swing, and our three teams are busy racking up the points!

Last weekend, CN Power and the Bay Street Bruisers traveled to Milwaukee to take on the Brewcity Bruisers. Two hard fought bouts later, both teams would emerge victorious! This was CN Power’s last bout before heading to the D1 Playoffs in Salem, and they showed their strength in a 301 – 98 victory over the Brewcity All Stars. The Bruisers would cruise to a 213 – 105 victory over the Brewcity Battlestars.

Yesterday, Montreal Roller Derby drove up for a visit with their rookie skaters the Smash Squad, and Les Sexpos, their B-team. In the first half, the Smash Squad capitalized on a series of DVAS jammer penalties to gain a significant lead over the DVAS. Not to be outdone, after halftime the DVAS rallied and closed their almost 100-point deficit to within mere points, with an exciting 2-minute last jam that would see the DVAS lose by just two points.

Final Score: Smash Squad 188 – 186 DVAS

With both teams attempting to uphold the glory of their leagues, the Bruisers and the Sexpos packs were furious on the track. The Sexpos opened up an early lead, taking advantage of penalties to get ahead at the start. Regrouping after a time out, the Bruisers pushed back to close the gap and start growing a lead. Points would trade back and forth for the remainder of the game, with the Bruisers slowly growing their point advantage.

Final Score: Bruisers 162 – 101 Sexpos

CN Power is now turning all their efforts to prepping for the the WFTDA D1 playoffs in Salem, OR. You can help them get there. Be sure to turn in to WFTDA.tv the weekend of September 28th to watch them play.

August Double Header vs. Montreal Roller Derby

Our interleague teams are full swing into their seasons right now, with the Bay Street Bruisers and CN Power traveling to Milwaukee this weekend to take on the Brewcity Bruisers. Our next, and second last for the year, home bout will take place on August 17th – and it’s a double header against teams from Montreal Roller Derby!

First up, the DVAS will take on the Smash Squad, representing some of the newest skaters of both leagues. Following that game is a clash of B-teams, as the Sexpos challenge the Bruisers on their home turf.

Tickets are on sale now in stores and online. Bring a chair, blanket, or nothing and sit in our trackside seating area. If that’s a little too close to your tastes, we have lots of bleacher space as well. Merch, food and beverages will be available for purchase at the venue.

UPDATE: Attention quad flex pass holders! You can use any remaining flex pass tickets at this game. Season pass holders! Show your seasons pass to receive discounted admission of $12 at the door. The “bonus” admission on your pass is also good at this event!

UPDATE #2: FLASH SALE! Starting Wednesday at 6pm for 24 hours only, buy 2 tickets to Saturday’s double header against Montreal Roller Derby for only $18! Use promo code flash241.

Bruisers Narrowly Defeated, Fall Schedule Updates

This past Saturday the Bay Street Bruisers traveled to Ottawa to challenge the Rideau Valley Rollergirls Slaughter Daughters. Both teams entered the game with an impressive winning streak.

The game began fast and furious, with the Bruisers pulling ahead at the start, only to quickly fall behind the Daughters, who capitalized on early opponent penalties to pull ahead by 90 points and keep that lead at the half. Rejigging things at half time, the Bruisers came back on strong, out scoring the Daughters in the second half and working intensely to close the gap. With a Daughters jammer penalty in the last jam of the game, the Bruisers kept the pack at a stand still to help their jammer rack up points, but the gap was too large to close.

Final score: Slaughter Daughters 179 – 157 Bay Street Bruisers.

The next few weeks are busy for ToRD. This Saturday the DVAS are away at London Middlesex Roller Derby taking on the Violet Femmes. On August 10th, the Bruisers and CN Power are away challenging the A and B teams of the Brew City Bruisers. The following weekend (August 17th) sees Montreal Roller Derby travel to Toronto to have the Smash Squad take on the DVAS, and the Sexpos challenge the Bruisers. Tickets for the double header with Montreal will be on sale soon.

CN Power Makes D1 Regionals, DVAS Finish 2nd at The Fresh and The Furious

The latest WFTDA rankings are in and we’ve hit paydirt! CN Power’s hard work has paid off, and they make it into the Division One playoffs with a ranking of 39, just below fellow Canadian league the Terminal City Roller Girls. CN Power will be travelling to Salem, OR at the end of September for the division playoffs – the games will be broadcast online by WFTDA.tv.

Yesterday, the DVAS participated in the annual the Fresh and the Furious tournament, hosted by the GTA Rollergirls, which pits newer skaters and leagues against each other in an elimination tournament. The DVAS defeated the Pulp Affliction of the Orangeville Roller Girls, the Crow City Roller Girls, the Windsor A-Salt of the Border City Brawlers, and the Hammer City Rollergirls to make it into the championship bout against Les Bûches of Roller Derby Québec. After a hard fought bout at the end of a packed day, the DVAS would fall to Les Bûches to claim second place in the tournament. Well done ladies! The future of ToRD is bright!
