Dolls Take Home Their First Boot

An exciting conclusion to a great season, the Death Track Dolls capped off their undefeated 2013 season with a win at ToRD’s championship game, Battle for the Boot.

The game started off neck-and-neck, with both teams putting up minimal points. The Dolls opened up the first real lead of the night on natural grand slams, pulling away with a 20 point advantage. From thereon the Dolls hit the track with renewed confidence, racking up points to end the half ahead by over 80 points.

In the second period the Betties came on strong and doubled their score in the first few jams to close the gap to 50 points, but the Dolls surged back to grow their lead and keep the Betties at bay, ensuring their victory.

Final score: Death Track Dolls 258 – 73 Smoke City Betties

So concludes the 2013 home season for Toronto Roller Derby, but the Boot was not the last action you will see from us. Chicks Take the Boot!

In an exciting turn of events this past Saturday, the Chicks Ahoy upset the Gore Gore Rollergirls to win the coveted Boot, ending their Toronto Roller Derby home season for 2011 on a high note.

The Chicks and the Gores are the only two ToRD teams to claim ownership of the Boot in it’s 5 year history:

  • 2007 – Gore Gore Rollergirls
  • 2008 – Chicks Ahoy
  • 2009 – Gore Gore Rollergirls
  • 2010 – Gore Gore Rollergirls
  • 2011 – Chicks Ahoy

The bout started off neck and neck, with both teams putting up minimal points, trading the lead. The Chicks were the first to break the tight score, and started widening their lead, riding on the high of potential victory. They played a flawless game, seeming to always be in the perfect place to foil the expert Gores.

Final Score: 111 – 46 Chicks Ahoy!

Chicks Head to the Finals

It’ll be Chicks vs. Gores at Battle for the Boot 2011!

Last night the Chicks Ahoy faced off against the Death Track Dolls in a game fraught with rivalry. These two teams had already met 3 times previously this year, with two wins afforded to the Chicks, and one to the Dolls. It could have been anyone’s bout. Both teams put up ferocious effort on the track, with some great pack work and tireless jamming.

The Chicks Through the start of the first half the score was close, with the first jam ending 0 – 0. The next jam saw the first points for both teams, with Candy Crossbones putting the Chicks ahead 13-1. Though they would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the bout, the score was never more than a good power jam’s worth of points apart for most of the first half. In the last few minutes, the Chicks increased their lead significantly to end the period up 52 – 9.

The second half was even more intense than the first, with both teams landing solid hits and forming strong walls to hold the jammers within the pack. Building on the momentum from the first half, the Chicks were able to increase the point spread over the Dolls to ensure the win.

Final Score: 120 – 29.

Our next bout is our final home bout – the ToRD championships, Battle for the Boot 2011. June 25th, the Hangar, Downsview Park. Come see the Gores and Chicks face off for the coveted Boot trophey!
