North America's largest flat-track roller derby league. CN Power, Bay Street Bruisers, Chicks Ahoy!, D-VAS, Death Track Dolls, Gore-Gore Rollergirls, Smoke City Betties
Come down to Slack’s Restaurant and Bar (562 Church St) on Wednesday Sept 8th to play some dirty bingo and help support CN Power! They need to get to Jersey for September 25th so they can show the Garden City Rollergirls who’s the boss!(no, not like the tv show)
Don’t know what dirty bingo is? Neither do I, but I feel naughty just typing it. dirty bingo. dirty bingo. dirty bingo. Come to Slack’s on Wednesday and find out! It’s going to be wicked hilarity!
I must say, I’m very proud of our D-VAS. You ladies rocked the track something fierce, showing the DRRD that ToRD’s farmies are NOT people you want to mess with.
The D-VAS faced off against Durham Region Roller Derby. It was the first bout for both teams, but all the girls looked cool under pressure. At the beginning of the bout, both teams seemed evently matched. They traded points back and forth, the game remaining close throught the entire first period. The score was 45-32 D-VAS at the half. After a refreshing but brief halftime, both teams hit the track once more. Some sweet pep-talking must have gone on in the D-VAS locker room, because they returned full force, settled into their element. The D-VAS started pulling ahead, consistently building up a greater lead over DRRD, and it soon became clear they were determined to be the winners. They gave it their all, and it paid off! Final: 105-63 D-VAS
Now with the pressure on, CN Power hoped to follow the D-VAS win with a victory over the Queen City Rollergirls travel team, the Lake Effect Furies, for a total ToRD take-down weekend. Buffalo totally brought their A-game with them – barely a minute after hitting the track, you could tell CN Power would have their work cut out for them. The Furies were hard hitting, and had all their stragety ducks lined up in a row. When the first period ended, it was 38-53 Furies. Returning strong from halftime, CN Power began to close the gap, helped by an amazing 15 point jam by DefeCaitlin. The fury of both teams’ playing would come at a price though – Candy Crossbones and Brim Stone went down hard during separate jams, laying still on the track and quieting the crowd. No EMS required though – these are tough fems, and they got back up and returned to their benches under their own power. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end the Furies were able to keep the lead and win the bout. Final: 110-79 Lake Effect Furies.
Thanks to everyone who came out – the girls LOVE the crowd and the atmosphere you help us create!

Saturday August 21st, CN Power will face off against the Buffalo (NY, and wings!) Lake Effect Furies – but that’s not all! You get all this double header action for the same price as a regular bout! Can I hear you say “HELLZ YEAH!”?
Doors open at 5pm, the first bout kicks off at 6. Where at? The Hangar, Downsview Park – home of ToRD! As always, ToRD bouts are family friendly, so bring the whole gang – kids 9 and under are FREE!
Concerned about missing your dinner to watch us play? No worries, we totally thought about that! There is pizza and pop for sale at all ToRD bouts, so you can get your munchies on. As a happy bonus, we’re also a licensed event, so you can wash your pizza down with a nice cold brewski if that’s your flavour.
Also currently for sale is the next ToRD regulation bout – Death Track Dolls vs. the undefeated (since pre-2009!) Gore-Gore Rollergirls! It’s going to be vicious…ly awesome!
Why not buy tickets to both? You should – you know you’ll be there anyways. The season runs through the summer months, and before you know it it’ll be over *tear* so you should get your fix now!

Well… the title pretty much says it all. Those of you who weren’t there, you missed something preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeety spectacular. CN Power was out in their finest form, knocking the Vixens around all over the track and skating circles around them (literally!). By 5 minutes into the bout, CN Power had already managed to pull ahead 24-2.
That didn’t seem like a big enough lead to Landshark, who on her next Jam skated through the pack 4 times for a total of 15 points! Not to be outdone, Defecaitlin followed up in the next jam for another whopping 15 points! WOW!
The insane racking up of points continued, and by the half CN Power was ahead 108-20. CN Power fans were going crazy, but I think the ones supporting the Vixens were pretty stunned.
While the teams chugged water and discussed strategy for the second half, the rockin’ tones of Ginger St James & The Grinders filled the Hangar with dancing fans – I saw your foot bopping, don’t try to hide it!
After 20 minutes of awesome music, merch, pizza, and beer buying, fans ran back to their seats to see what would happen in the conclusion of the bout. With a sharp whistle blow, they were off!
CN Power didn’t relent – they just kept givin’er to the Rideau Valley Vixens. There was a tense moment when Landshark barrel rolled over Mega Bouche, but she somehow made it look graceful.
Down to the wire and clearly striving to hit 200 points, the final jam ended with a successful Passing the Star play (see 25:07 in part 2 of the video) as Landshark and Mach Wheels teamed up to rack the points up to 200. Unfortunately, the Jam clock ran out before she could make it around a second time to score the elusive 1 more point. Le Sigh!
Regardless, a great game played by all!! Thanks to RVV, their refs and their fans for coming to our humble home to challenge us! Better luck next time?
To relive the excitement, or if you missed the bout (SHAME!!), check out Mr. Force’s bout footage at http://www.layer9.ca
CN Power sponsor Balmshell hit up the bout on the weekend to show their support for the team. Check them out!
They also put together this sweet little video capturing the experience (does everyone have mad video skillz but me???)

Thursday, April 15th. The Opponent: The CN Tower. The Goal: To show the tower who’s boss.
This year CN Power has assembled a team of the finest in fine derby girls to tackle the CN Tower Stair Climb in support of the World Wildlife Fund. WWF-Canada’s goal is to raise 1 million $$ to help raise awareness about climate change and the effects it’s having on our planet. Don’t think climate change exists? Look around you! There was no Summer of 2009, and this ‘winter’ is pretty pathetic so far. Good job Canadian weather, way to have snow for the WINTEROLYMPICS.
Skaters signed up so far include: G-Force, Dyna Hurtcha, Betty Bomber, Demolition Dawn and Land Shark!
You can help the team and show your support by sponsoring the team! Or visit www.wwf.ca/cntower and click on “Team Challenge” then “Sponsor A Team”. The team is registered as “Toronto Roller Derby CN Power”.
Some facts about the climb:
– this is the 20 year anniversary of the climb
– there are 1776 stairs between you and sweet sweet relief
– that’s 144 flights of stairs!
Skater Personal Challenges
Dyna Hurtcha: To climb in less than 10 minutes!
Check out CN Power this Saturday at 6:30 in their bout against the Rideau Valley Vixens! All proceeds of the 50-50 will go towards supporting the CN Power stair climb team.
